Located on our main campus in South Kensington, the Sherfield Building can host up to 758 guests, offering great flexibility for large conferences, award ceremonies, exhibitions and more. Spaces throughout can be used separately or in tandem to allow associated events to take place under one roof. Interesting facts about our flagship buildings
- The Sherfield Building’s construction was commissioned as part of Imperial’s post-war expansion scheme. It aimed to help the College meet the scientific and technological challenges of the 20th century and was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1969.
- The Sherfield Building sits opposite the Queen’s Tower, the heart of our South Kensington campus.
- The Queen’s Tower is all that remains of the Imperial Institute, which was built to mark Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887.
- The Queen’s Tower is 287 feet tall, clad in Portland stone and topped by a copper-covered dome. There are 324 steps from the ground to the base of the dome and much of the route to the top is via narrow spiral staircases.

How to find the Sherfield Building
The Sherfield Building is accessible directly from the Queen’s Lawn on Imperial College Road, or via the Huxley Building entrance on Queen’s Gate which leads to a connecting walkway between the two buildings.
