- Completed in 1889, 170 Queen’s Gate was designed by renowned architect Richard Norman Shaw. Shaw was known for his country houses and commercial buildings and is considered one of the UK’s greatest architects.
- The exterior of 170 Queen’s Gate is an example of English domestic architecture of the period. Its design loosely follows the Queen Anne style, which Shaw became internationally famous for.
- Originally a four-storey home for Frederick Anthony White, a wealthy cement manufacturer, this historic building exchanged hands several times before being acquired by the College in 1947.
- The family crest and initials of the original owner can still be seen on the decoration of the front door and rainwater heads on the south façade respectively.
