As an academic venue, Celesta Venues adopts Imperial College’s Campus-wide Environmental Policy which is driven by a bold vision to create a sustainable, zero pollution future. Holding your event with us, directly contributes to funding world-leading sustainability research at Imperial.
The College’s research plays a pivotal role in delivering the scientific, technological and policy solutions necessary to turn this vision into a reality. Through the College’s multi-disciplinary approach, we are revolutionising manufacturing practices, reshaping attitudes towards consumption, and uncovering the profound impacts of pollution on human health. From sustainable energy sources to tackling water scarcity and ocean plastics, the College is dedicated to driving positive change across the globe. By choosing to have your event with us, not only will you benefit from a selection of unique spaces and professional, discreet and slick event services; but you will be helping to fund this critical research.
Sustainability is not just a distant goal for us, but is something that is considered in every aspect of our operations. Below are some of the initiatives that we have actively implemented:
Minimising waste
Our catering team have been actively working to reduce waste. Starting with replacing plastic platter trays with reusable wooden boxes. Other strategies have also been implemented resulting in a 90% reduction of disposable films and minimisation of single-use stirrers and sachets. By making these simple yet impactful changes we are significantly reducing our ecological footprint and encouraging a more sustainable approach to catering.
Exploring dairy-free
We understand the importance of catering to diverse dietary preferences. That’s why, upon request, we provide non-diary alternatives for catering orders without any additional surcharge. By offering this option, we are minimizing the environmental impact associated with dairy products.
In our continued commitment to sustainable food practices, we also recently conducted a successful trial of a ‘dairy-free’ month within our events and outlet catering. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about the environmental benefits of reducing dairy consumption.
Eliminating single-use cups
We have taken a firm stance against single-use plastic cups by removing them from our drink stations. This simple action has already saved a staggering 850,000 cups per year from ending up in landfill or polluting the environment.
Our ongoing efforts have also included introducing a levy on disposable coffee cups. By implementing this measure, we aim to discourage their use and in turn promote the adoption of reusable alternatives, seeking to reduce the 715,000 used per year.
The introduction of the MI (My Imperial) Cup scheme is a programme which also aims to foster a culture of reusability and sustainability, whereby cups can be deposited into containers and reused at our outlets.
Efficient Oil Filtering
Through innovative oil filtering techniques, we have achieved a remarkable 57% reduction in cooking oil waste. This approach not only minimises environmental impact but also leads to more efficient resource management. By optimising our processes, we can contribute to a greener and more sustainable food industry.
When you choose to have your event with us, you become an active supporter of world-leading sustainability research at Imperial College London. Our commitment to tackling climate change, reducing pollution, and creating a sustainable future is reflected in our actions and research endeavours.
